Scholarship Application Process

Online applications

ONE application is all that’s needed to apply to multiple scholarships. The new online application process will alert you of eligibility during the completion of the online app. For example, if you read the descriptions of scholarships and plan to apply to several you still only need to complete one online app. Based on information in your application, you will be presented with those scholarships for which you are eligible to apply. Simply select yes or no for each scholarship listed for you. We suggest you write down the names of the scholarships before you begin the online process.

Printable applications

Many scholarships have printable Word Documents as their application. Simply click on the scholarship name and it will take you to a document for you to download and complete. You must complete one for EACH scholarship with a printable application. Instructions for submission are included in the document.

In-school applications

Several scholarships applications are available only through your school’s guidance counselor. If you find a scholarship listed under in-school apps, please see your guidance counselor office for an application.

John & Jo Draeger Scholarship

Eligibility: Established to assist a Janesville high school student interested in studying mechanical or electrical engineering. Student must have a 3.5 GPA. Preference will be given to a student planning to attend the University of Wisconsin or another Wisconsin institution. If a student cannot be identified with an interest in mechanical or electrical engineering, a related engineering field may be considered. A written statement, “Reasons for wanting to pursue engineering” should be included with application.

Jeremiah Campbell Scholarship

Available to students from:
Eligibility: Student must have a 2.5 GPA and a written essay with responses to the following questions: “When you get your senior yearbook, you see the description ‘Most Kind Hearted,’ how do you think you obtained that dedication?” and “What are your life goals? What would you do if something happened that you found out you were unable to reach them?” Preference will be given to students who demonstrate enthusiasm for and have actively participated in martial arts training.

Karl Southworth Memorial Scholarship

Available to students from:
Eligibility: Established to provide for post-high school educational opportunities for young people from Janesville, Wis. Guidelines include: Top 30 percent class ranking, self-motivating, and have demonstrated an involvement in a variety of school and/or community activities. Preference for financial need may be considered.

Richard F. Schwarer Scholarship

Eligibility: Established to assist graduating seniors receive a post-high school education. Must have financial need.

John S. Scott Scholarship

Eligibility: Established to assist minority students receive a higher education. Guidelines include racial minority origin, a 2.5 GPA, good character and participation in extra-curricular activities. Preference may be given to students with demonstrated financial need.

Karl A. and Bernice E. Samek Scholarship

Eligibility: Established to provide scholarships for worthy graduating seniors of Janesville public high schools to further their education at a college or technical school.

Howard Peterson Scholarship

Eligibility: For students from Janesville, Wis. interested in pursuing a career in the building trades. May be used for technical schools. Preference may be given to students who have an interest in masonry and who demonstrate a financial need. May be renewable for four years.

Philip McQuade Memorial Scholarship

Available to students from:
Eligibility: Established to assist graduates of Janesville high and parochial schools pursue a higher education in the field of engineering. Guidelines include top 20 percent of class, church involvement, and intention to study the field of engineering.

Joseph N. Melan College Scholarship

Eligibility: Student must excel in school and would not have sufficient resources to pursue post-high school education.

Robert C. Lovejoy Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility: Established for graduates of Janesville high schools who demonstrate leadership, service to others, and involvement in their school and the larger community.

Alvah Lloyd & Lulu Lloyd Scholarship

Eligibility: For financially needy students to pursue a higher education. Guidelines include: scholastic standing and ability, character, and financial need.

Irene Hoyt Education Scholarship

Available to students from:
Eligibility: Established to assist Craig High School graduates who intend to become elementary teachers. Preference may be given for community service, especially as it relates to a student’s involvement with young children, financial need, and academic performance.

Cecelia Howe Scholarship

Available to students from:
Eligibility: Established for graduating seniors from Craig High School intending to pursue a career in education.

Amy Elizabeth Houseman Memorial Scholarship

Available to students from:
Eligibility: For students who plan to attend Blackhawk Technical College. Preference given to a student seeking a marketing profession.

Norman W. and Janice Graper Scholarship

Eligibility: Established to provide for post-high school educational opportunities for young people graduating from a Janesville public high school who will be attending an accredited college or university. Student should be in the top 25 percent of their class ranking and must be intending to pursue a career in elementary education.

Elks Club Scholarship in Memory of Leon Glowacki

Eligibility: Established for graduating seniors of Janesville high schools. Financial need, scholastic achievement, and good citizenship are determining factors. All things being equal for applicants, preference may be given to a child of an Elks Club member.

Timmy Mork Cullen Scholarship

Available to students from:
Eligibility: Established for students attending an accredited college, university, or technical college who intend to study the field of engineering. Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate community service activities or who have held a job while attending high school, but this is not a restriction.

Kenneth F. & Grace E. Bick Scholarship

Available to students from:
Eligibility: Established to provide scholarships to Janesville public school students planning to attend a college, junior college, trade, or religious training school.

Katherine M. Belling Memorial Art Scholarship

Eligibility: Established for a graduating senior who intends to pursue an art degree from an accredited college, university or technical college.

Youth Baseball of Janesville Scholarship

Eligibility: Established to provide post-high school educational opportunities for young people from Janesville, Wis. Student should have at least a 2.5 GPA, recommendation from teachers, coach and/or school administrator is welcome, must demonstrate active interest in community and school activities, and preference will be given to students who have been active in Youth Baseball of Janesville.

George K. Steil, Sr., Scholarship

Available to students from:
Eligibility: Student should be in the top 25 percent of class ranking. Preference will be given for financial need and the intent to study law.

Wilson Rawls Scholarship

Eligibility: For literary-minded students attending a four-year college or university. Provide three letters of recommendation, one each from a teacher, guidance counselor, and employer or community leader. Submit a written essay of 200-400 words in length describing future education, personal life, community service, and career goals.

Ronald J. Jelinek Memorial Fund for Welding Education

Eligibility: For students or adults wanting to learn or improve welding skills. Application is open to anyone living in Rock County. Scholarships will be given for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and/or equipment required for courses at the educational institution.

Janesville High School Class of ‘57 Scholarship

Eligibility: Established to commemorate the 50th Class Reunion of the Janesville High School Class of 1957. At least one scholarship shall be awarded annually to a graduating senior from any Janesville High School and qualified Charter School who will be attending an accredited college, university or technical school.

Theodore W. Batterman Family Foundation Scholarship

Eligibility: Student must have a 3.5 GPA or better, be among the top 20 students in the graduating class, have engaged in community service of a significant nature, be a person of good character as shown through letters of recommendation (only one may be from a teacher or school administrator), have demonstrated financial need, and provide a written statement of their goals. Scholarship is renewable up to four years.
