New Glarus Community Foundation Helps Library Showcase Covid Year in Art Exhibit

By Beth Blahut, New Glarus Library Board Trustee

The ‘Mapping Our Community’ exhibition showcases artwork created by local community members. The project, sponsored by the New Glarus Public Library, gave friends and neighbors an outlet for creative expression, allowing them to design highly personal images of their experiences in the year 2020. This exhibit reveals the challenges faced within the community due to the pandemic, as well as the connections that exist between people, even through times of isolation.

Participants made their unique maps using artist’s paper, colored pencils and watercolor paints provided by the library. The project celebrates the 175th anniversary of the village of New Glarus and shows myriad viewpoints of this small but vibrant community.

The artwork will be on extended exhibition at the New Glarus Village Hall, starting on Friday July 30th. Exhibit is open to the public whenever Village Hall is open. The maps are also available for viewing in an online gallery at youarehereNGPL.org.

The map project is made possible with a grant from the Anonymous II Fund of the New Glarus Community Foundation of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.
