What are Excellence in Education Funds?
Excellence in Education (EIE) funds are a means to strengthen our school communities with the use of private charitable resources. EIE funds are awarded for the benefit of school district students and staff. They encourage creative and innovative educational programs, recognize and reward outstanding achievement, and encourage local business, civic and community involvement in schools. They may be awarded to public and private schools according to the wishes of the community. EIE funds operate independently of school board oversight.
Scholarships vs. Education Funds
While scholarships are still a popular choice to further educational opportunities for graduating seniors and adult students, Excellence in Education funds serve the immediate and changing needs of current students in our local schools.
What Southern Wisconsin communities hold Excellence in Education Funds?
The Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin currently holds EIE funds for the following communities and school districts:
Argyle, Belmont, Black Hawk, Darlington, Elkhorn, Evansville, Hillsboro, Iowa-Grant, Janesville, Mineral Point, Monroe, Monticello, New Glarus, North Crawford, Parkview, Pecatonica.
Giving the Gift of Education
Gifts to Excellence in Education funds are an investment in quality education for today’s students and future generations. Private resources allow for educational programming not typically funded by tax dollars.
Your gift can be a lasting and meaningful way of recognizing a special person or event in the life of your family, organization or business. To give to the EIE fund of your choice, visit our Donate page.
Applying for an EIE Grant
One or more times per year, each EIE fund awards grants to the local school district for projects and/or programs that fall outside of the confines of the district’s operating budget.
Applications are accepted from school personnel during the individual district’s open grant cycle. The grant awards are determined by the individual EIE fund’s advisory board.
